Evolving to Enhanced Industry Solutions

As a long-time Rambus employee (I just celebrated my 20th anniversary with the company this month), I can say that, in many ways, Rambus isn’t the same company I joined many years ago. We’ve diversified beyond our core memory and interface business into areas like security and lighting, as we continue to identify new and exciting ways to bring invention to market.

What hasn’t changed at Rambus is that we continue to produce cutting-edge, industry-leading memory and interface technologies. These technologies are what built Rambus and what I believe will remain our core for years to come.

Looking back, the first decade of Rambus was all about RDRAM® and the revolutionary memory technology we brought to market. Since then, while we continued to innovate around RDRAM and introduce new memory architectures (such as the XDR™ DRAM) to a new generation of power users, we also introduced many standards-based memory and serial link products (such as DDR and PCIe interfaces) to help our customers be compliant with emerging and important industry standards.

And that leads me to the present. I am really excited about our new R+™ family of enhanced solutions and our new R+ LPDDR3 memory architecture that we announced this week. Like the industry, we believe standards are extremely important. But while our R+ solutions remain fully standards-compliant, we also add innovations to enable our customers to differentiate their end products.

We all know there is an ongoing demand for media-rich mobile devices and cloud-based services. We’ve designed our R+ solutions to satisfy these demands by providing significant improvement in power and performance while maintaining compatibility with today’s leading industry standards. These low power and high performance benefits give our customers a cost-effective, low risk solution that helps speed their time-to-market while working with existing standards. Check out our website to find out more about our Rambus R+ family of solutions and our R+ LPDDR3 memory architecture.

I believe my next decade at Rambus will be filled with many new, cool inventions and solutions within our core memory and interface business that can help our customers continue to build great products, and I look forward to using this blog to keep you informed on what we’re up to and how we are bringing invention to market.

Thank you,

Kevin Donnelly,

SVP Memory and Interface Division, Rambus
